There are certain brand names that we automatically associate with quality and Sony is one of those names. They’ve been producing quality audio and electronic products for decades and they continue to be a name you can rely on. It’s no surprise then that they also have a great premium Bluetooth speaker. The Sony SRS X-55 is one of the best-sounding Bluetooth speakers on the market today; if you can’t afford a top-notch surround sound system for your home theater this speaker system will make a good substitute.
This Sony speaker is not as expensive as you might think, retailing for under $200. That may not put it in the most affordable category, but it’s less than you’ll pay for a lot of premium Bluetooth speakers these days. It’s a pretty reasonable price to pay for a product you know will produce great sound because of the company’s reputation for consistently producing great products.
You wouldn’t expect anything but the finest engineering from Sony and they don’t disappoint with this Bluetooth speaker. The SRS X-55 produces its powerful sound with 30 Watts of digitally amplified power; it’s designed to function as a portable speaker or even, as we mentioned above, as a great substitute for a home theater system. My first home Bluetooth speaker had 20 watts and it still produced a pretty impressive sound that would fill a room, so 30 watts is more than enough in most circumstances.
A Great Foundation
The reason that this speaker is able to produce such a fantastic sound is because it has four separate speaker drivers. It has two passive radiators as well as two woofers to produce great overall sound. The reason some Bluetooth speakers struggle to produce great sound quality is because they lack enough drivers to make it happen. Sony has produced a product with the right mix of drivers here to make sure that the sound quality is up to par.
Easy Pairing Options
This speaker gives you choices when it comes to pairing options between your smart phone or tablet and your Bluetooth speaker. You can pair it using traditional Bluetooth methods by syncing both devices independently, or you can use the built-in NFC function if your device is equipped for pairing through that method. If you’re not familiar with NFC technology, this allows you to pair two Bluetooth devices by simply tapping them together. Not all smart phones have this built-in function, so it will depend on which device you own as to whether or not you can use this feature.
Respectable Battery Power
When it comes to rechargeable batteries they are not all created equal. In fact, some Bluetooth speakers only maintain a charge for about four or five hours – that may be adequate in some circumstances, but it’s a little limiting. This Sony speaker maintains its charge for up to 10 hours, or more than double some of these less-capable models. There are speakers that can hold their charge longer, but in most circumstances 10 hours is more than sufficient.
If you’re having a great social gathering at your home, sometimes there are people that just can’t make it. That doesn’t mean they can’t still enjoy a little bit of the social experience; with the SRSX55’s built-in speakerphone function you can bring those friends to the party. It may not be as good as being there, but it’s a great backup option. All you have to do is hit the phone button on the top of the speaker and the good times can begin.
Sound Boost Technology
One feature that this speaker has that’s entirely unique is a sound clarity button. Essentially what this button does is take a song that may be a little fuzzy-sounding and clarifies it to produce a sound that will be music to your ears. This feature really comes in handy if you’ve transferred some old audio files from records or tapes and want to try to make them sound as good as they possibly can. It’s as simple as pushing the button and listening to the speaker transform that old song into something new.
Don’t Drop It
There aren’t too many issues with this speaker, but it’s not the most durable. Some customers have complained that it just doesn’t stand up to a lot of wear and tear – you just don’t want to drop this speaker. So while it is technically portable, it’s better used as a speaker around the home. You can still take it out on the patio – I’m just not so sure you’d really want to take this one to the beach with you. If you do, you’ll want to be careful when you’re carrying it, as it will break if dropped on a hard surface.
Reliable Sony Quality
If you’re looking for a great portable Bluetooth speaker that you can use around the home then this Sony SRS X-55 is definitely one of the best options available to you. It has some great features such as sound clarification technology and a built-in speakerphone, but what makes it really stand out is its fantastic sound quality. If you’re looking for a great speaker to use at social gatherings around the home or as a substitute for a home theater system, then this is a great choice.
