The RIVA TURBO X RTX01B is a premium Bluetooth speaker that’s capable of producing some powerful sound that will impress just about anybody. Music has always been a central component in our home and so we’re always looking to upgrade our sound system options – this speaker seems to be a very good potential upgrade for any home. It’s a true portable speaker as well so you can take it with you anywhere, which is always something most people look for in a Bluetooth speaker system.
This isn’t one of the cheapest models on the market, though – you can expect to pay around $350 for this one. It’s probably not a price you want to pay on a whim, but it would make a great birthday present or Christmas present. The other thing to consider when purchasing a premium speaker model like this is that it may be worth while waiting until you can afford to purchase it, as you won’t have to worry about replacing it in the near future.
It Keeps Going and Going
One of the features that immediately caught my attention with this speaker is its long battery life. It’s designed to last up to 26 hours when played at a moderate level. For most people that means you’ll probably get three or four days’ worth of listening out of the speaker without ever having to recharge it – that is, unless you’re one of those people that like to listen to their music all day and all night with very little rest in between. Personally, I like to get a little sleep once in a while, but to each his own.
Great Speakerphone Integration
There are many Bluetooth speakers on the market that have a built-in speakerphone function, but very few of them do it as well as the RIVA TURBO X does. This speaker has noise and echo-canceling technology that makes your conversation sound perfect, and it also has buttons built onto the top of the speaker that allow you to connect and disconnect your call. You can also choose to ignore the call if you prefer. If you’re sitting right next to your speaker it’s a lot more convenient than trying to dig your smart phone out of your pocket.
A Little Turbo Sound
This speaker has the traditional up and down volume buttons that you are used to and these will do an adequate job of controlling your speaker’s sound output, but it also has an extra feature designed to take the sound to the next level. It has something built-in called the Turbo EQ mode which gives the speaker a little extra boost when you push the Turbo button. It actually makes a neat car-revving sound when you push the button – yes, it’s just a gimmick but it’s still fun! This is a great option for when you want to crank up the volume at your party and get your guests in the groove.
Play Those Old Records
Another great feature of this system is that it also has an auxiliary Jack or phono mode for connecting with your older devices such as a record player. I’ve got a ton of great records in my parent’s basement and a speaker like this would be a great way to reconnect with that old record player and listen to some of my favorite tunes from yesteryear. These days a lot of people are rediscovering vinyl so this is a nice additional feature to have.
Charging and Upgrading
The Turbo X also has integrated USB technology. There’s a standard USB port on the back of the unit that can be used for charging your smart phone or tablet – which is great if you’re away from home and your battery’s running low. It also has a micro USB port that’s designed to be used for software upgrades.
There Is an App for That
You can manage your music using the controls on the top of the unit and, of course, you can also use your smart phone’s music player to control volume playback as well. If you’re looking for another option you can also download an app that’s specifically designed for this speaker, but it’s a fairly basic app that doesn’t really give you much more functionality than you already have with your smartphone’s existing music player.
If there’s one criticism that some consumers seem to have with this product it’s that the volume just isn’t convincing enough. In fact, some people have complained that not only is the volume not loud enough, but also the actual sound quality itself leaves something to be desired. It’s important to recognize, though, that the overwhelming majority of people that have purchased this speaker system have been very happy with the level and quality of sound that it produces.
This Speaker Has A Lot Going for It
You certainly don’t want to ignore the criticisms that some customers have made about the quality of sound this speaker system produces, but I think it’s fair to say that most customers have been very satisfied with this product. The battery life of 26 hours is far better than most Bluetooth speakers on the market, and I love the Turbo EQ feature that’s designed to give your volume a little extra boost. There really is a ton of great features in this speaker system, so it’s definitely worth some serious consideration.
