JBL Pulse 2 Bluetooth Speaker, with Interactive Light Show

When I think of some of my most memorable moments with my favorite music I inevitably come back to some of my favorite concerts that I’ve attended. The best ones didn’t just feature some great music – they also blew me away with a fantastic light show as well. There’s something about a colorful visual display that takes your music experience to the next level; it’s probably because it draws you into the music and makes it feel alive. The JBL Pulse 2 attempts to reproduce your best concert experience with a light show in your backyard and it doesn’t sound too bad either.

You might expect that a speaker that can produce not only some great sound but also a great light show would be relatively expensive – well, surprisingly, it’s not. What may be even more surprising is that this Speaker retails for under $200 and that makes it a perfect system to be at the center of any party.

Interactive Light Show

What really makes this JBL speaker system so unique is the fact that it brings an interactive light show to the party. Using an innovative new technology the manufacturer of the Pulse 2 has changed the way that music is experienced. Not only does this speaker light up, but you actually get to control the light show yourself. The speaker comes with a JBL Prism color sensor lens that allows you to pick and choose which colors are amplified at any particular time. Personally, I love music in any form, but the idea of having my own personal light show has a great deal of appeal as well.

Water Doesn’t Have To Spoil the Party

Last year I was sitting in my backyard with the Bluetooth speaker I had at that time and I felt a couple of raindrops and had to run inside – my speaker just wasn’t designed to handle the rain. That storm didn’t last long, but it was enough to ruin my experience because I wasn’t confident that my speaker could handle a couple of raindrops. This speaker by JBL is more than capable of handling a little bit of rain because it’s completely splash proof. You can take this one by the pool, or keep on enjoying your music during a brief little sun shower without having to worry about ruining your speaker.

Plenty of Power

If you’re under the impression that the manufacturer of this speaker spent too much time coming up with a unique gimmick like a light show and failed to concentrate on some of the more important features of a Bluetooth speaker, that’s simply not the case. For one thing, it has great battery life with a battery that will last for up to 10 hours. There may be some portable speaker systems with better battery life, but 10 hours is normally more than enough to get you through any social gathering.

It Makes a Great Phone As Well

There are other Bluetooth speaker systems that can be used as a speakerphone, but what makes this one special is the fact that it has built-in noise and echo-canceling features that help it to produce a crystal-clear sound when you’re using it as a speakerphone. There’s nothing more frustrating than a phone with a fuzzy sound, and it’s comforting to know that this speaker will let you have meaningful conversations without having to put your phone to your ear. It’s also a great way to let your friends get in on the act when you’re speaking with someone on the other end.

Join Your Speakers Together

Bluetooth speakers can produce a powerful music experience, but if you can have several speakers linked together the sound’s bound to be that much more impressive. With the JBL Pulse 2 you can link multiple speakers together with the potential to create a powerful outdoor sound like none you’ve ever heard before. When my family built a home more than 10 years ago we had speaker wires built into the walls and linked to the outdoor patio, which enabled us to bring our speakers outside and create an epic sound, but at considerable cost. With a speaker system like this you can produce that same quality of sound without spending money on a complicated wiring system.

Where It Falls Short

Some customers have complained that this speaker system is a little heavier than other portable Bluetooth speakers; at just over 3 pounds that is true, but it’s still pretty light in the overall scheme of things. I don’t know about you, but I think I can handle lugging a speaker around that weighs about 3 pounds if it can provide me with some epic sound and a light show as well.

The other thing that may be a bit of a drawback with this speaker system is that the sound quality is decent, but it won’t blow you away. Compared to some of the other Bluetooth speakers on the market it does leave something to be desired, but it still provides pretty good sound quality that is more than adequate for most people’s needs.

It Definitely Has Some Appeal

The JBL Pulse 2 is a good speaker system – it’s just not a great one. If you’re really sold on the light show experience then there’s no reason not to consider this speaker – it does have a good sound; it’s just not the best on the market. Compared to other speakers in its price range it stands up pretty well, so if you’re looking to spend under $200 on a Bluetooth speaker this one’s a good choice, and it comes with the added bonus of an excellent light show.
