I’m always torn between whether it’s best to go with a Bluetooth speaker that’s larger and less portable but built to produce powerful sound, or if it’s better to opt for something more compact that you can take with you. I suppose it really depends on what you plan on using it for the most – that is, of course, unless you can find a compact product that can produce the same sort of powerful rich sound that you find in larger Bluetooth speakers. That may sound like a tall order, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility by any means.
One of the premier manufacturers of compact and powerful Bluetooth speaker systems is JBL, and their Flip 3 is another great choice in their product line. If you’re looking for a great speaker that won’t break the bank this one has to be on your list. The speaker can be purchased for less than $100 and it’s a great choice if you’re buying your first Bluetooth speaker.
The Perfect Party Speaker
When we have a gathering of friends or family at my house there is often a lot of debate about what type of music should be played – my wife’s opinion of what to play is always a lot different from mine, for example. With my old stand-up Bluetooth speaker that I’m currently working on replacing there isn’t an easy way to switch back and forth between devices, and often one of us is very disappointed in the musical choice. With the JBL Flip 3 you can connect up to three different smart phones or tablets at any one time, making it simple to switch back and forth between devices. This sounds like a great feature with the potential to solve a lot of arguments in any house.
Calls Are a Breeze
We don’t always use a Bluetooth speaker at social gatherings – sometimes we just want to listen to a little music while we’re working in the home office. The problem with listening to music while you’re working is that it can be very distracting if a phone call comes in. That’s not a problem with this model by JBL as it has built-in speakerphone function that makes it easy to take calls; it will automatically allow you to interrupt the music to connect with your incoming call. The call quality is fantastic and might even be a little better than the quality you’d expect from your smart phone’s built in speaker.
Water Doesn’t Have To Stop the Music
Most of JBL’s speaker systems are waterproof and the Flip 3 is no different. If you’re sitting on the patio enjoying a nightcap and listening to some good music, you don’t have to worry about a few drops of rain, as the speaker will continue to function just fine. It’s also a reassuring feature for when you have your speaker in the middle of the patio table and a guest spills a drink – you don’t have to worry about a mad scramble to keep the liquid away from your sensitive speaker. Also, if your unit gets a little dirty you can just run it under the tap to remove some of the grime.
Turn Things up a Notch
This speaker is capable of producing some top quality sound that will spice up any gathering, but if you happen to have a friend or two with the same speaker you can really get the party going. This speaker is designed to allow you to connect multiple speakers together to produce an even better sound than any one speaker can produce individually. If you’ve got a few friends with one of these speakers, even better – you just might want to be careful that the neighbors don’t complain!
Hours of Listening Enjoyment
This speaker has a lithium-ion battery that’s designed to hold a charge for up to 10 hours when you’re listening at a moderate level. If you’re the type of person that always listens to music at the highest volume you may only get seven or eight hours out of a charge, and that’s still pretty decent. If you’re more like me and like to listen to music at a comfortable level you should be able to get 10 hours of listening pleasure from one charge with no problem.
A Great Travel Companion
You really can take this speaker anywhere. As we’ve already mentioned, it has great battery life, and it’s also very lightweight at about 1.6 pounds, making it easy to carry. When you combine this with the fact that this speaker is probably small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, there really is no reason that you can’t bring it along with you just about anywhere.
Not the Best at Higher Volumes
The one recurring complaint that customers have had with these speakers is that they don’t do so well if you listen to them at high volumes for a sustained length of time. More than one customer has complained about blowing their speaker shortly after purchasing it. Granted, it’s probably only a small minority of people that listen speakers at higher volumes, but this is still a concern nonetheless.
Sounds like a Great Deal
While it might be a problem that the speaker has a tendency to distort at higher volumes, I don’t find this to be a major deal breaker. If you’re like me and like to listen to your music at a comfortable volume, that will probably never be an issue for you. When you consider the fact that this speaker is waterproof and that you can connect up to three smart phones or tablets, as well as connect multiple speakers, together, there are definitely more pluses than negatives. All of this for a speaker that costs under $100 – not bad, if you ask me.
