There are a lot of great reasons for buying a Bluetooth speaker apart from the fact that they’re a great way to listen to your favorite music no matter where you are. When you get into premium-quality Bluetooth speakers there generally isn’t a lot of difference between the various competing products in terms of sound quality, but there can be a wide variation in design and what I call the cool factor. The Jawbone BIG JAMBOX not only has some great features built right in, it’s also got a very interesting design, which is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and gives it that cool factor.
As we’ve already hinted, this is a premium product, so at about $300 the price tag is a little higher than some other Bluetooth speakers. If you’re on a tight budget this speaker will probably be a little out of your range, but if you’re willing to spend that kind of money this speaker is worth every penny.
Never Miss a Call
It’s becoming quite common these days to include some kind of speakerphone functionality in a Bluetooth speaker. This speaker by Jawbone also features a built-in mike that enables you to use it as a speakerphone. It’s a simple feature to set up and the sound quality of the calls is excellent. If you love the idea of hands-free calls and you don’t want to exclude others in the room from your conversations, you’ll really enjoy this particular feature.
Battery Power That Lasts
The Big Jam Box is a truly portable Bluetooth speaker in every sense of the word. It won’t fit in the palm of your hand, but it’s still small enough to take with you just about anywhere, and with its long-lasting battery you won’t have to worry about recharging it every couple of hours. In fact, the lithium-ion battery in this model is designed to last up to 15 hours on one charge. If you like to listen to your music cranked to the highest volume you probably won’t get the same amount of listening time from one charge, but you should still get 11 or 12 hours, which is more than enough for most needs.
Connect the Way You Want
While most people will prefer to use this speaker connected via a Bluetooth link, you do have other options. The system comes with a built-in 3.5 mm aux-in port as well, for connecting your smart phone or tablet via its headphone jack; it will also allow you to connect older devices that don’t have Bluetooth connectivity. That means you can still get some use out of your original iPod or your classic record player. We all like to enjoy our music in different ways and it’s nice to know that you’re not limited in any way with this unit.
Different Control Options
This speaker can be controlled using your tablet or smart phone’s built-in music player, or you can use the buttons built into the top of the speaker for controlling your music output as well. These buttons are basic, with volume control buttons, play and pause buttons, and track skip buttons to control the output. There’s also a pairing button which makes it simple to connect to your new speaker with your smart phone or tablet. There are no options for adjusting the bass or treble, which is one minor drawback.
Immersive 3-D Sound
One major advantage that this speaker system by Jawbone has over other competitors in its price range is an exclusive technology called LiveAudio. This is activated by pressing the up and down volume buttons at the same time; what it does is to use a technological trick to widen the sound producing an immersive 3-D quality to the music. It’s a great feature if you’re using the speaker while watching a movie on your tablet, as it really brings the sound to life.
It Keeps Getting Better
If you’re not completely sold by this speaker’s features yet, there’s one more to consider that might convince you. This speaker can be connected via USB to the company’s MyTalk website which features exclusive content and software updates. It also allows you to use voice control to send emails and text completely hands-free; you can give your thumbs a break for a change.
Charging Options Are Limited
If there is one thing I didn’t like about this speaker it’s the fact that it has to be charged using your typical, old-fashioned charging adapter. You can’t charge this speaker system via USB, which does leave you somewhat reliant on having a wall outlet somewhere nearby. This can be somewhat problematic if you’re out on a trip in the great outdoors – of course with 15 hours of battery life, as long as you plan appropriately this shouldn’t be a major concern.
Bluetooth As It Should Be
The Jawbone BIG JAMBOX really is one of the best premium Bluetooth speakers on the market. It’s got great sound quality and it’s packed full of features that make this a true entertainment system. When you consider the fact that it will also give you up to 15 hours of listening time on one charge, this is definitely a speaker system that will put a smile on your face.
