Bose Soundlink III Portable Speaker

I’ve already reviewed the Bose Soundlink Mini II on this site and, while I thought that was a great product, it’s fair to say that the Bose Soundlink III is just a little bit better. Its sound quality is that much richer and it has a few other features that that the previous model was missing. I’ve got a great pair of headphones that produce a level of bass that’s hard to reproduce in a normal speaker system, but this speaker by Bose comes very close. When you’re purchasing a high-quality Bluetooth speaker you want something that’s going to quite simply blow you away, and this speaker has the potential to do just that.

You will spend a little bit more money on this model than for the Mini II, but it’s still very reasonably priced at under $300. In the late 90s I spent over $1000 on a top quality sound system that wouldn’t come close to producing the same level of sound that this small Bluetooth speaker by Bose can produce today. We really have come a long way in just a couple of decades and it’s exciting to see what the next couple of decades will bring.

Easy Bluetooth Connectivity

The singular most important function of a Bluetooth speaker – other than great quality sound – is that it can connect effortlessly with your smart phone or tablet. The Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III makes this process about as simple as it can be. On the top of the device is a Bluetooth button that you press to send a signal to your device and make it visible; then all you have to do is accept the connection on your device. Its range is about 30 feet, so you don’t have to be standing right next to the speaker with your phone or tablet. Another great feature of this speaker’s Bluetooth connectivity is that it can remember up to six different devices, so you can easily program it for your phone, your spouse’s phone, and your tablet.

Protect Your Investment

I like the idea of Bluetooth speakers because of their portability and the fact that one can take them anywhere. The only problem with the fact that Bluetooth speakers can be taken anywhere is that they can be exposed to a lot of different environmental factors. This device has a protective silicon button panel that’s designed to withstand exposure to dirt and dust. That means you don’t have to worry about your speaker not working properly after a day at the beach.

It Will Go All Day

I remember in my teenage years spending hours at the beach; in those days there were no Bluetooth speakers so we had to rely on the stereos in our cars. That worked okay, but my friends and I were constantly worrying about our car’s battery dying on us. These days teenagers don’t have to worry about such problems as they can simply take their Bluetooth speaker with them. The Bose Soundlink III is a really great choice to take on such an outing as it has a battery that will last up to 14 hours. Most Bluetooth speakers have batteries that last somewhere between eight and 10 hours, so this is certainly a big improvement over other devices.

Other Input Options

My niece recently got an old-fashioned record player for a present and she was quite excited about that, but the problem with that kind of device is that you can’t connect it via Bluetooth. Fortunately, this Bose speaker comes equipped with an auxiliary jack for just such an occasion. You can use this for connecting older devices such as analog record players and older iPods that don’t have Bluetooth. You also have the option of connecting your smart phone via the headphone jack this way if you like, although Bluetooth is probably the better option for this type of device.

Fully Updatable

One of the most important features of all types of technology these days is that they need to be fully updatable. Our technology is advancing at such a rapid pace that it’s hard for any piece of equipment to keep up; that’s why many products have the built-in capability for upgrades. The Sound link III has a USB port designed specifically for software updates, which means you can be confident that Bose will keep their product up-to-date and compatible with the latest advancements in Bluetooth technology.

The Detractors

I doubt there’s any product in any category that everyone’s in love with, and the same applies for this Bluetooth speaker by Bose. The vast majority of customers think this is a great sound system, but there are some detractors. Some complain that the bass tends to distort at higher volumes and that the quality of sound is not much better than the Bose Mini II. The other issue that some people have with this product is that it includes a traditional wall charger rather than a USB charging option.

Love the Battery Life

There’s no doubt that the Bose Soundlink III is a great speaker system that produces quality sound that will rival any other product in its price range. It’s nice to know that you can connect up to six different devices, and with a range of up to 30 feet it will suit most people’s needs. Perhaps its best feature, though, is its long battery life – with up to 14 hours of listening time at one charge you can basically go all day without having to worry about finding a charging outlet for this device. This may be the one feature that puts this product ahead of other Bluetooth speakers in this price range.
