Bose SoundLink Mini II – Big Sound in a Small Box

When it comes to Bluetooth speaker systems there may be no more recognizable name than Bose. It seems that every time I turn on my television there’s another Bose speaker commercial and, if nothing else, they’re certainly winning the advertising war with their competitors. This company does produce some good products though, which is actually probably the reason they have so much money to spend on advertising. Bose provides a range of Bluetooth speaker products to fit just about every budget, but if you’re looking for great sound that’s relatively inexpensive, the Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth Speaker II is a great starting point.

The Mini II is certainly not the least expensive Bluetooth speaker system on the market, but it’s still priced in a range that makes it well within reach of most consumers. You can expect to pay about $200 for this product; that’s a pretty good bargain to get a reliable sound system made by a quality manufacturer like Bose.

Pounding Bass

I have a good friend with a Bose sound system and it always amazes me the rich quality of sound that their little speaker is able to produce – in particular the rich bass sounds that that little speaker pounds out. I’m definitely what you call a rock ‘n’ roll fan, so a speaker like this that’s able to produce those rich bass sounds is very important to me. That’s one of the Bose SoundLink Mini II’s greatest features – that rich deep bass that sounds like it’s coming from a system that’s much bigger and more expensive. There are sound systems that will cost you thousands of dollars that will produce a much deeper bass than this one, but the sound quality this produces is pretty impressive for the money.

Compact and Wireless

Probably one of the main reasons that people choose Bluetooth speaker systems these days is because of their compact and portable nature. If that’s one of your main requirements in a Bluetooth speaker system then you’ll definitely be pleased with this product from Bose. It’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and it weighs only 1.5 pounds, which makes the amazingly rich bass sounds that it produces that much more impressive.

As far as pairing it with your smart phone or tablet, that’s a pretty straightforward process as well. To make things even easier, Bose has included voice prompts that will guide you through the process. This was a particularly appealing feature for me as I’ve found that many Bluetooth speaker systems can be a little frustrating when you initially try to connect them to your device.

Great for the Home Office

Another great feature of the Mini II is that it can double as a hands-free speakerphone. If you’ve ever tried using the speakerphone that’s built into your smart phone you might have been a little disappointed with the quality of sound. Often calls made over speakerphones are difficult to hear, but that’s not a problem when you use the built-in speakerphone function that comes built into this model. Once you’ve paired your speaker with your smart phone you’ll be automatically prompted when a call comes in without having to do anything further to set things up. I’m a big fan of making life no more complicated than it needs to be.

Lots of Charge and Charging Options

This speaker comes with a built-in lithium-ion battery that makes it well-suited for taking with you just about anywhere. The battery’s built to last; on average you’ll get about 10 hours worth of listening time on a single charge – that’s a little better than average.

When it comes to charging your device, you have more than one option. The SoundLink Mini II comes with a charging cradle for quick and simple charging while at home, and it can also be charged via USB when you’re out on the road. You can certainly take the cradle with you, but it’s not too convenient and is probably best left on your desk at home.

Lightweight Convenience

As we’ve already mentioned above, this product is highly portable and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but it’s also very lightweight. Believe it or not, this speaker actually weighs in at less than 2 pounds. It’s pretty impressive when you think about it – that such a rich sound comes from a product that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs less than 2 pounds.

Not Everyone’s Impressed

In my experience any Bose speaker that I’ve had the opportunity to listen to has had very high quality sound, but not everyone agrees with my opinion. More than one customer that has bought this product complained that the sound was average at best. I think where the problem lies here is in expectations. When you’re spending less than $200 on a sound system you’re not going to get concert-level sound, but some people still expect this. If you recognize the product for what it is, you’re much less likely to be disappointed.

Good Things Can Come in Small Packages

The Bose SoundLink Mini II is a great sound system for a model that’s priced under $200. It produces a rich bass sound that is surprising for such a little product. It also makes connecting your device through Bluetooth a very simple process. There are certainly better sound systems on the market, but not many at this price level.
